PROJECT OVERVIEW
IDES Electrical Services were appointed by Lanes Group to design and install Solar PV systems across four buildings at their Eccles depot facility. The project formed part of the company’s wider sustainability strategy, helping to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy across the site.
THE CHALLENGE
The project involved the design and installation of four separate Solar PV systems across multiple operational buildings within a live depot environment. The works required careful planning and coordination to ensure minimal disruption to day-to-day operations, with strict health and safety procedures implemented throughout the project, including segregation measures and controlled working areas.
In addition to the installation works, IDES managed the DNO approval process and coordinated structural roof surveys to verify the suitability of each building prior to installation. The project was further complicated by roof overcladding works being undertaken by others, requiring close coordination between multiple contractors to maintain programme and safety requirements.
OUR SOLUTION
IDES delivered a complete turnkey Solar PV solution, managing the project from initial site assessments and system design through to installation, testing and commissioning.
The project comprised four independent Solar PV systems installed across four separate depot buildings, with a combined installed capacity of 165.9kWp. In total, 395 solar panels were installed, providing a significant source of renewable energy generation across the site.
Working closely with Lanes Group and other project stakeholders, IDES successfully delivered all systems while maintaining safe operations throughout the live working environment.

PROJECT OUTCOME
The project was successfully completed within programme, providing Lanes Group with a substantial on-site renewable energy generation system capable of supporting the company’s long-term sustainability objectives.
The completed installation comprises four Solar PV systems with a combined capacity of 165.9kWp and is expected to avoid approximately 32 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The project helps reduce reliance on grid-supplied electricity while supporting the client’s environmental commitments and reducing long-term energy costs.
