PROJECT OVERVIEW

IDES Electrical Services were appointed by Fix Auto Wrexham to design and install a Solar PV system at their accident repair centre. The project formed part of the client’s commitment to reducing operational energy costs, improving sustainability performance and increasing the use of renewable energy across the site.

THE CHALLENGE

As a busy accident repair centre, Fix Auto Wrexham required a Solar PV solution capable of delivering strong financial returns while supporting the site’s significant daytime energy demand.

A key objective of the project was to maximise energy generation throughout the working day rather than focusing solely on peak midday production. The system therefore required careful design to ensure generation profiles aligned with the facility’s operational requirements while delivering a rapid return on investment.

In addition to the installation works, IDES managed the DNO approval process and coordinated structural roof surveys to verify the suitability of the building for the proposed Solar PV installation.

OUR SOLUTION

IDES provided a complete turnkey Solar PV solution, managing the project from initial site assessment and system design through to installation, testing and commissioning.

A 78kWp Solar PV system comprising 188 solar panels was designed and installed across both east and west roof elevations. This arrangement was selected to provide a broader generation profile throughout the day, helping maximise self-consumption and improve the overall value of the renewable energy generated on-site.

The project included a full installation package together with ongoing aftercare support, ensuring the system continues to operate efficiently and deliver long-term benefits for the client.

PROJECT OUTCOME

The project was successfully completed within programme, providing Fix Auto Wrexham with a substantial source of renewable energy generation and significantly reducing reliance on grid-supplied electricity.

The completed 78kWp Solar PV installation is expected to deliver annual electricity savings of approximately £27,000, achieving an estimated payback period of just 2 years and 11 months. In addition to the financial benefits, the system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 15 tonnes of CO₂ each year, supporting the client’s sustainability objectives and environmental commitments.
