PROJECT OVERVIEW
IDES Electrical Services were appointed by Autocraft Telford to design and install a large-scale Solar PV system at its vehicle repair facility. The project formed part of Autocraft’s commitment to reducing operational energy costs and supporting its long-term sustainability objectives through the generation of renewable energy on-site.
The installation also represented a significant milestone for IDES, being one of the company’s first major Solar PV projects within the automotive repair sector and helping establish the foundations for its growing renewable energy division.
THE CHALLENGE
As a high-energy-use automotive repair facility, Autocraft required a renewable energy solution capable of delivering significant reductions in electricity costs while supporting the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
The system needed to be designed to maximise energy generation from the available roof space and provide a strong return on investment, while integrating seamlessly with the site’s ongoing operations.
OUR SOLUTION
IDES provided a complete turnkey Solar PV solution, managing the project from initial site assessment and system design through to installation, testing and commissioning.
A 216.66kWp Solar PV system comprising 476 solar panels was designed and installed across the facility roof, creating a substantial source of on-site renewable energy generation. The installation was carefully designed to maximise generation potential and support the site’s operational energy requirements throughout the year.
The project included a full installation package together with ongoing aftercare support, ensuring the system continued to operate efficiently and deliver long-term value for the client.

PROJECT OUTCOME
The project was successfully completed, providing Autocraft Telford with a substantial renewable energy asset capable of significantly reducing reliance on grid-supplied electricity.
The completed 216.66kWp Solar PV installation is expected to generate approximately 188,349kWh of renewable electricity annually and reduce the facility’s electricity costs by approximately 70%. With an estimated payback period of less than two years, the project delivers both significant environmental and financial benefits while supporting Autocraft’s wider sustainability objectives.
The success of the project helped establish IDES as a trusted provider of commercial Solar PV solutions within the automotive repair sector and paved the way for numerous future renewable energy projects across the industry.
