The Details
PROJECT OVERVIEW
IDES Electrical Services were appointed by Swissport to deliver the complete electrical fit-out for their new cargo handling facility at Manchester Airport. The development formed part of a major investment in Swissport’s UK operations, creating a state-of-the-art cargo hub designed to double annual handling capacity and support future growth through advanced automation and modern warehouse infrastructure.
THE CHALLENGE
The project involved delivering a comprehensive electrical infrastructure package within a large-scale industrial and logistics environment. A key requirement was the provision of electrical supplies for a new automated cargo handling system, commissioned by specialist third-party contractors, together with the installation of lighting, life safety systems and distribution infrastructure capable of supporting the operational demands of a significantly expanded facility.
Accurate load assessments were required to ensure the electrical infrastructure could safely support the new automation equipment while providing the capacity and resilience required for future operational growth.
OUR SOLUTION
IDES carried out estimated load calculations to determine the electrical requirements of the new facility and automation systems. Working closely with Swissport and the wider project team, we delivered a complete electrical package including power distribution, high-bay LED lighting, emergency lighting and fire alarm systems, together with dedicated supplies to support the automated cargo handling equipment.
The installation was carefully coordinated to align with the wider construction programme, ensuring all systems were delivered, tested and commissioned within the project’s 12-week programme.
