The Details
PROJECT OVERVIEW
IDES Electrical Services were appointed by Spraybooth Technology Ltd to deliver the complete electrical design and installation package for Smart Fleet Solutions’ new automotive technical centre at Cold Meece, Staffordshire. The project formed part of a major investment programme to create one of the UK’s most advanced vehicle refurbishment facilities, requiring a comprehensive electrical infrastructure package capable of supporting bodyshop operations, office accommodation, stores and external areas.
THE CHALLENGE
The project involved the delivery of a complete electrical installation within a new-build automotive technical centre, incorporating workshop facilities, office accommodation, stores and supporting infrastructure throughout the site.
Awarded as one of the largest contracts undertaken by IDES at the time, the project required the installation of extensive power, lighting and containment systems within a demanding 12-week programme. The facility also required specialist electrical supplies for bodyshop equipment, including spray booths, together with high-performance lighting capable of achieving approximately 1,000 lux at floor level throughout the workshop environment.
To achieve the programme requirements, the installation team worked extended hours, weekends and night shifts throughout key phases of the project.
OUR SOLUTION
IDES provided a complete design-and-build solution, undertaking site surveys, lighting calculations, electrical design and installation works. The project included the installation of galvanised trunking, tray and ladder containment systems, new electrical distribution infrastructure and power supplies throughout the facility.
A bespoke lighting design was developed using IDES’ AUTOLUX LED lighting system, with more than 200 fittings installed throughout the technical centre. The lighting scheme was designed to deliver approximately 1,000 lux at floor level within workshop areas, while office accommodation was designed in accordance with EN12464-1 lighting standards.
The installation also included emergency lighting systems, power supplies for spray booth equipment, small power installations throughout the facility and LED floodlighting to the external façade.
